hello all, i'm trying to get Arvo Parts Spiegel Im Spiegel violin to play on the Auug. it works for the most part, i'm having trouble figuring out the best way to configure for a lot of long sustained notes. it also spans between g below middle C up a high B.(2 octaves above middle C). scale-wise 3 notes are out of range.and i'm getting a lot of crackling sound. so if there are any bowed instrument professionals out there, i'd love to know how i can get it to go smooth.
PS if your are not familiar with the song. its been featured in MANY MANY films. but i'td be easy to google.
Cheers.

Hi Travis, sounds interesting!
A few questions so we can help you:
- By Arvo Parts Spiegel Im Spiegel are you referring to a song not an instrument sound? i.e. https://youtu.be/1Y9RgbGLLfE
- What instrument sound are you controlling with the Motion Synth? Is it this one?: http://auug.info/wiki/doku.php/public/b ... r_ensemble
- You mention that "scale-wise 3 notes are out of range": Do you mean that the melody includes accidentals that are not included in the selected scale (selected in the Motion Synth app) or that you are not able to reach the octave that contains the 3 desired notes?

hi,
yes, i'm referring to the musical piece as in the video you described. its a piece for piano and solo string. i'm trying do the string part, specifically a solo violin. i was using GarageBand iOS in the background but i think i buggered it up and i think what i was hearing was auug preset for orchestra sound.
i'll give reaktor a try. see what i can figure out with that by trying to follow the instructions on the auug info site.
the score is in f major. at the peak of th piece there are 3 notes G,A, B that cannot be played at the required pitch. maybe i'm shifting octaves wrong. i think its the latter. i'm not able to get to that octave register, past the high F.

Re: technical noob needs advice
full string score is 2 full octaves and 2 additional notes. i'm beginning to feel its more the motion settings when changing octaves that are buggering me up.
<edit>
if i'm reading the midi note chart right, then this piece ranges from G4 -B6 (55-83) hmm.
<edit 2>
figured it out. got it to play the right notes. adjusted the up-down parameters and fiddled with octave settings. thanks for the help

Re: technical noob needs advice
Very glad to hear that!
If you are looking for a way to play sustained notes without interruption on an instrument sound like this: http://auug.info/wiki/doku.php/public/b ... r_ensemble
The trick is to play the sustained note via a continuous circular motion.
If you trigger the note in the middle octave zone, making a circular motion downwards will produce a sustained note without interruption.
If you trigger the note in the middle octave zone, but instead make a circular motion upwards will produce a sustained note without interruption PLUS vibrato.
Its the reverse for notes triggered in the top octave zone.
See here for further explanation:

Let us know if you need any further help, and if you record any video or audio please send it our way; we'd love to hear what you are up to!

Re: technical noob needs advice
having trouble with the reaktor 5. i've tried following the setup instructions via usb, via midI. One thing i can't figure out is how to turn "on" devices win the audio midi setting s of reaktor 5. one thing i can confirm is when i press the pads on the synth app, the MusicIO does register the circles.
i really am a noob
.HAAAALPPPP ME!

Re: technical noob needs advice
hi Tke,
To confirm, is the MusicIO server on your laptop registering that MIDI is being received from the Motion Synth app?

Re: technical noob needs advice
That is the MusicIO server, so you are in the right program.
Now click on the display tab of that window.
If you are connected to the Motion Synth app, the icon in the display tab of the MusicIO server should be green.
When you press the keys on the motion synth app, the five 'pins' of the icon (in the display tab of the MusicIO server) should flicker. Is that what you see?
